The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show draws close, one notices an outcry to include additional classifications to recognize unsung work and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary game development, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
